And according to a 2017 article by Acentech , “The hotel industry – all $493 Billion of it – has a noise problem.” Whether it’s due to the design of the hotel or other contributing factors, noise is one of the top complaints for hotels. It can also be one of the greatest deterrents, as a quiet good night’s sleep is what many hotel stayers are looking for. That, and great internet connectivity.
Another reason so many hotels are having an issue with noise, is as one Travel Pulse article found “only 43 percent of guests with noise complaints actually tell the front desk staff… Instead, they’re going online and leaving hotel reviews.” While this may be a good way to alert the hotel and rest of the internet of the issue, these reviews can have lasting effects for the hotel’s profitability.
The good news is, there is a lot that can be done to dampen the noise and help the hotel become a quiet place to stay. The possibilities range from construction and redesign, using sound dampening materials, and even updating room fixtures. Some items like updating windows and doors can make a big difference. There is also white noise sound masking technology that can help reduce the noise that can be heard and where, even if the cause of the noise isn’t able to be fixed.
